“Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one.” this is the famous quote by Stella Alder, a true torch bearer of contemporary cinema. This statement couldn’t be more resonant to the thousands of healthcare workers on the frontlines witnessing the highs and also the lows of a person’s life. Life is no easy for these personnel who watch as the people they’ve formed rapport over time struggle with immense pain and suffering. In these testing times art offers an escape and a fresh breath of life to turn to. Sadly, both of the hectic work cycles in modern times and the replacement of these escapades with more handy alternatives such as social media and scrolling, we are truly using the ‘junk food’ alternative as these come with their own baggage of the need of validation and comparison of our life to theirs being a perfect their of joy. The medical affects are another story with doomscrolling fueling anxiety, depression, and existential dread. In the picture becoming clear, it’s obvious we need to act and invest more of our time and effort into embracing real art and injecting our passion into something that really recharges us. The 7 beautiful pillars of this Partheon namely painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music, theater, and film. These offer a much better medicine for the soul and must be embraced with zeal that can power our life. Art offers the uniqueness of offering both first person and second person seat to embrace it. You could be pick your brush and paint like the great Picasso himself or find yourself at Louvre admiring the Mona Lisa for its layers and more so what the artist was trying to convey with his visual telling . For when we truly fuel the human side in us to discover art , can we really be humane to the work we do.
